Monday Mini Meditations

Hi there lovelies,

The other day I caught our cat Basil meditating.  Stretched out on his back on the rug, paws in the air, eyes half closed, breathing slowly and evenly, a contented half-smile on his face.

If you think he was just sleeping, trust me he was not.  I know a meditating cat when I see one.

Cats can definitely teach us a thing or two about relaxation meditation, something they seem to practise quite frequently during a busy day.  They intuitively know how valuable it is for their health and wellbeing and their ability to remain alert and aware when they are on the prowl.

After all relaxation meditation encourages the rest and digest/relax response, something we all need more of in our modern world.

Here are Basil’s top tips to achieve a powerful relaxation meditation:

  1. Lie down, stretch out, let go of muscle tension and relax.
  2. Gently half or fully close your eyes.
  3. Slow down your breathing and let it become soft, gentle and even.
  4. Put a small smile on your face – this signals to the body that all is well.
  5. Remain undisturbed by external interruptions (including annoying people who come close to take photos!).
  6. Stay in this position as long as possible.

Try meditating like a cat this week…. I would love to hear how you go.

And watch out for my ’25 tips to meditate without really trying’, along with my new FREE relaxation meditation – both coming soon.

From my heart to yours,

cynthia
